2023 Books Read
February
5. The Golden Season - by Madeline Kay Sneed - A novel about growing up gay in a very religious family and town in Texas. How it affects both family and community.
4. Body Grammar - by Jules Ohman A novel about growing up and discovering who you are.
3. The Escape Artist - by Jonathan Freedland - Story about an escape from Auschwitz, what it was like there and how he managed to escape to be able to tell the world what was going on there.
2. The Climb by Chris Froome
- Tells the story of Chris's childhood, family and the path he took to get to the highest level of cycling, and winning the 100th Tour de France in 2013. Great read. Inspiring.
1. 537 Days of Winter Resilience, endurance and humanity while stranded in Antarctica during the pandemic
- True story of David Knoff the Australian Antartctic Expdeition Leader during the years of 2020 & 2021. I found it a quick read, and mostly about what it's like to be the one in charge. How having a good team matters, and how, as most leaders will know, there are always people who don't want to cooperate! A fun read, and I learned a lot about how these research stations work.
January
4. Fellowship Point by Alice Elliott Dark
- Novel about a lifelong friendship between two women with shared histories, set in Maine.
3. Life Undercover: Coming of Age in the CIA by Amaryllis Fox
- A memoir, 10 years in the CIA, in an elite clandistine ops unit. Compelling.
2. Diners With Ruth: A memoir on the Power of Friendship by Nina Totenburg
- A memoir about women helping each other in a male dominated time, and friendship.
1. A Most Beautiful Thing: The True Story of the First All-black High School Rowing Team by Arshay Cooper
